Description
If your dog is hyperactive, nervous or anxious, its stress levels are permanently hightened which is detrimental to its physical and mental health and results in many behavioural problems. Each stressful situation at home or during walks adds to their stress bucket until its too full and emotions spill over. This is when we say that the dog reacted or become aggressive out of nowhere, when in fact, its stress bucket has been already filling up for some time.
Relaxation therapy for hyperactive dogs enables them to settle, empty their stress bucket, become more responsive to training and resilient to stress. The therapy lasts for 4 weeks, and is tailored to the dog’s needs, capabilities and personality. The fee is paid upfront for the whole therapy.
A typical relaxation therapy dogs includes:
-
- an initial consultation to assess the level of the dog’s hyperactivity/anxiety/nervousness and collect background information
- a therapy plan outlining what will be done and when over the course of four weeks, tailored to your dog’s needs and hyperactivity levels.
- a management strategy to prevent trigger stacking and increasing stress levels during therapy
- weekly therapy sessions (online, on training site or in your home, depending on the needs), when we learn and practice relaxation methods, evaluate the results of previous weeks and adjust the therapy plan if needed,
- ad hoc support in-between sessions (answering your questions over email, WhatsApp or Telegram)
- therapy instructions (handouts, videos, online manuals)
- a recommended reading list (optional, for knowledge-hungry owners)
- a relaxation box – selection of supplements and enrichment toys supporting relaxation and stress relief
The essence of relaxation therapy are short everyday home sessions (5-10 minutes), when the owner practices the relaxation methods with the dog. Home sessions are the core of the therapy and have to be implemented at least thrice a week (recommended daily). The sessions should not be shorter than 5 minutes, but can be as long as your time permits, as long as your dog finds them pleasurable.
The relaxation methods we use include:
- Tellington TTouch
- Canine massage
- Monaural beats
- Herbal supplements
- Body wraps
- Chewing and licking
- Lead stroking
- Brushing and grooming
- Dog yoga
