If your dog is nervous or anxious, its stress levels are permanently hightened which is detrimental to its physical and mental health and results in many behavioural problems.
The relaxation methods we use include:
- Tellington TTouch
- Canine massage
- Monaural beats
- Pheromone therapy
- Body wraps
- Chewing and licking
- Lead stroking
- Brushing and grooming
- Scent work
Each stressful situation at home or during walks adds to their stress bucket until its too full and emotions spill over. This is when we say that the dog reacted or become aggressive out of nowhere, when in fact, its stress bucket has been already filling up for some time.
Relaxation therapy for dogs enables them to settle, empty their stress bucket, become more responsive to training and resilient to stress. Relaxation therapy is tailored to the dog’s needs, capabilities and personality. If during the consultation session we agree that the dog would benefit from the relaxation therapy, I assess their stress levels and their responsiveness (sensitivity) to different stimulti (touch, sound, taste). Based on that, a relaxation therapy plan is developed, which usually includes:
- weekly online sessions with me, when we learn and practice new relaxation methods, evaluate the results of previous weeks and adjust the therapy plan if needed. These sessions may be a part of a wider training plan or separate dedicated relaxation sessions, depending on the dog’s needs.
- short everyday home sessions (5-10 minutes), when the owner practices the relaxation methods with the dog. Home sessions are the core of the therapy and have to be implemented at least thrice a week (recommended daily). The sessions should not be shorter than 5 minutes, but can be as long as your time permits, as long as your dog finds them pleasurable.
