Welcome to Black Velvet Canine Coaching

I’m Anna, a modern dog trainer providing a dedicated, tailored support to owners struggling with their dog’s behavioural problems.

If you have questions, or you need a free of charge emergency advice, click one of the contact buttons at the bottom of this page or fill in the email form here.

In my training methods, I’m focused on improving dog-owner communication and mutual understanding of needs and boundaries, rather than enforcing dog’s blind obedience. All dog’s issues are dealt with in ethical yet effective manner, I do not accept using behaviour suppression methods based on punishment, fear or intimidation.

Your training journey starts with an initial consultation, when we discuss your needs and expectations, evaluate dog’s behavioural issues to be addressed, agree upon the action plan and design a tailored training package. A training course duration varies between 4 and 8 weeks and ends with a final evaluation session when we assess the results and outcomes of training. A no fix no fee approach is adopted, which means that as long as you work with your dog and implement the training plan at home, you only pay full training fee after the positive final evaluation.

My work in a nutshell

xxx

I don’t promise miracles but I do promise that the results we achieve will be significant, visible and long lasting (or you will not pay a penny). I do not accept using behaviour suppression methods based on punishment, fear or intimidation. Even if they work as a quick fix, the results do not last long and the problems come back one way or another and with increased intensity.

I was struggling myself trying to train my 2 yr old Whippet, Walter, who had become very protective and anxious with other dogs when walking on the lead. This was something that just seemed to start very suddenly and was leading to us avoiding other dogs and travelling miles just to find a quiet place to walk Walter. It also meant that we could not get anyone to take Walter if we wanted to go away for the night etc. We were at tge stage were we were starting to seriously think about rehoming our amazing boy something I don’t think we would ever have done because we love him so much but didn’t know how to change his behaviour. In a last attempt to seek help we reached out to Anna at Black Velvet and that decision turned our lives around for the better. On the first session Anna was able to identify that Walter was not an aggressive dog he was just a dog that was anxious when he did not have enough space. With Anna’s fantastic support we worked together and she gave me very clear goals and instructions on working with Walter each week to build up his and my confidence. Fast forward 6 weeks and I am confidently walking Walter on and off the lead. He is great with other dogs off the lead and his recall is improving everyday, something that was non existent a few weeks ago. I have learned how to help Walter and walks on the lead have improved 100%. I am now feeling so much more relaxed and enjoying great walks with Walter everyday. It is so much better for him and us. I can’t recommend Anna enough, she has given us great advice and real practical help throughout. I would definitely recommend Anna and Black Velvet dog training. Iain

When I went through a long period of depression, one of my biggest worries was my dogs. On the days I could barely get out of bed, I felt like I was letting them down. Walks became shorter, training stopped altogether, and I often questioned if I was being fair to them. In my darkest …
